Digital Publishing Forum: Mobile Technologies

The growth in purchase and use of smart phones and similar devices has been much noticed by commentators in the information world over the last two years. Across all sectors, book and journal publishers have been making content available with varying degrees of success.

It is a good time to review what we have learnt to do and not do, and whether/how publishers have or may have to develop new work flows and pay for a different infrastructure to make provision for this new audience.

Speakers will represent cutting-edge publishing companies, and the technologists working with them.

* George Walkley, Head of Digital, Hachette UK will explore the key platforms of the mobile landscape, and share Hachette’s experience in monetising mobile content.

* David Payne, Editor, will give news of the BMJ’s iPad app, a manifest of BMJ’s weekly print journal with added functionality which launched a few months ago. It is delivering the journal to a new audience, and has already thrown up a few surprises around its target market.

David Payne will outline the app’s features and how it has been used to date, and a colleague from digital agency Mobile IQ will give technical detail on how the app has been assimilated into work-flow.
