Metadata: Primer training course (online)
Overview: This course is part of BIC's 2020 training programme. It will be delivered remotely, and delegate numbers will be limited to a very small group to ensure the quality of the experience.
Benefits of Attending. Delegates will gain an appreciation for the importance of high-quality metadata in the book supply chain, the main organisations involved, and an understanding of the role of standards such as ONIX and Thema for the communication of industry metadata.
Course Level: Beginner. This course is suitable for delegates with no prior knowledge of metadata, particuarly those new to the industry.
Course Outline: The course aims to give complete beginners an appreciation of the key role metadata plays in the global book supply chain.
- Introduction: What is metadata, and what is it for? How can it be managed?
- More detail: How metadata enters the supply chain; the commercial value of high-quality metadata; the most important metadata ‘fields’, the importance of standards and agreed semantics for data sharing and data quality accreditation.
- Discussion, summary and further resources.
