ONIX: Essentials Training (NYC)

The ONIX: Essentials course is the first of two intensive all-day ONIX training sessions. Graham Bell introduces the ONIX standard and the essentials of producing, managing, and disseminating book metadata. This course gives you all the vital information to understand the basics of ONIX and how it is used in the book industry, and it mixes the background and theory of metadata with real-world practice and guidance in an approachable but authoritative way. The course is aimed at staff with management responsibility for metadata, either in editorial, IT, marketing, or production within a publisher, or in similar roles within distribution and retailing. It is not highly technical, but it would be of benefit to software developers seeking to understand ONIX. The Essentials course is suitable for those with little or no prior knowledge of ONIX, but also benefits those who already have significant experience – it is not merely a ‘beginners introduction’, and covers all the key ONIX concepts in detail. This is an in-person, all day course in NYC taught by EDItEUR's executive director, Graham Bell. The class will go over the essentials of ONIX, and is a great start for those who wish to build or strengthen their ONIX knowledge. Lunch will be provided. The class runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm ET. It is an in-person training session: no streaming options can be provided due to the length of the course and interaction required for the participants. If you are interested in ONIX: Essentials, also check out the ONIX: Advanced topics course and the ONIX 2.1 to 3.0 transition training running on succeeding days. For those interested in subject codes, the Thema: Essentials half-day course would also be a great use of time. If you register for both Essentials and Advanced ONIX training, you receive a 20% discount for registration by using the code ONIX2.
