BIC Implementing Thema training course

This course provides an introduction to Thema – the international subject classification scheme for the global book trade – explaining the need for such a scheme, its origins, development and adoption, its benefits across the trade, and the key similarities and differences between Thema and the more familiar BIC, BISAC and other subject schemes. Specifically, the course guides trainees through the processes involved in implementing Thema in their publishing workflow, their IT systems and metadata product records, and in managing the migration from BIC to Thema.

The course explains how the Thema is used and interpreted throughout the supply chain. The course includes guidance on best practice, in the context of demonstrating how accurate Thema subject classification is essential for effective search and discovery in store and online.

The course is aimed at anyone with an interest in book product metadata, and subject classification in particular. Whatever your background, whether from an publisher editorial, marketing or systems perspective, or from a retail background, this course is relevant to individuals from all disciplines within the trade.
