Digital Publishing Forum – Stand out from the Crowd: what digital skills do publishers need?

The Publishers Association Digital Publishing Forum events, organised in association with the Centre for Publishing at University College London and EDItEUR, examine digital issues of strategic importance to academic, professional, educational and trade publishers through a mix of presentations and discussion sessions.

This month's Forum focuses on the need for improved digital skills across the industry.

In today’s crowded job market, a good degree and a passion for books are no longer enough. Publishers are increasingly looking for candidates who have digital skills which go above and beyond knowing how to use Excel. Entry-level applicants should show a familiarity with data entry, consumer insight, InDesign, digital marketing and the basics of metadata to demonstrate that they are the best people to get published products into the hands (or phones) of consumers. Hear from a panel of publishers and recruitment consultants on what makes a CV stand out to them, and see the different ways publishers are asking applicants to demonstrate their skills – before they get that prized job in publishing.

Speakers include:
    • Nick Coveney (Kings Road)
    • Nigel Marsh (Faber & Faber)
    • Karine Nicpon (Atwood Tate)
and the even will be chaired by Emma House of the Publishers Association.
