Digital Publishing Forum: The UK Copyright Exceptions and the Impact on Publishing

This Digital Publishing Forum will look at the context of the exceptions to copyright law made as a result of the rise of digital content, both in the UK and more widely. The Forum will take in EU and US copyright reforms which could impact future changes here, and at WIPO level. Florian Koempel, Hugh Jones and Laurie Kaye will look at key relevant exceptions in text and data-mining, accessibility and the Marrakesh Treaty, and parody. Further, the recent changes to the use of orphan works, which clarifies (and relaxes) the lengths one must go to locate a rights-holder, will also be explored. The panel, chaired by Anthony Watkinson, will contextualise the exceptions and examine their significance to the publishing industry.
