CC BY 3.0
The Creative Commons Attribution License 3.0 (“CC BY 3.0”) is a public domain license which permits most forms of use or re-use of a licensed work provided that (a) due acknowledgement is made of the original source and authorship, and (b) no additional restrictions are placed on subsequent users.
Like other Creative Commons licenses, CC BY 3.0 is published in two forms: a ‘License Summary’, also sometimes referred to as a License Deed, which summarizes the key terms in non-legal language, and a ‘License’, or ‘Legal Code’, which provides a detailed statement of the full terms and conditions. The ONIX-PL expression uses both. Both forms of text are stored in full as part of the ONIX XML document, and both are linked explicitly to elements in the ONIX-PL expression, so that the justification for the ONIX elements can be seen by reference to the relevant CC wording.
Notes on the ONIX-PL expression of CC BY 3.0
These notes explain the approach which has been taken in creating the ONIX-PL expression of the Creative Commons Attribution license. Notes are cross-referenced to the full view and summary view wherever it is felt that this would be helpful. We recommend that you keep the notes open for reference when you look at the full or summary view.
ONIX-PL ‘summary view’ of CC BY 3.0
One of the features of the OPLE editing software is that it can be used to generate an HTML ‘summary view’ of an ONIX-PL expression. The summary view is intended to provide a concise and easily readable representation of the main features of the expression, with the ability to click on any selected element and see the license wording on which it is based.
For a general introduction to the way in which the summary view is presented, click here. We recommend that you also refer to the notes on the ONIX-PL expression of CC BY 3.0, above.
ONIX-PL ‘full view’ of CC BY 3.0
Also generated by the OPLE editor, the ‘full view’ of an ONIX-PL expression is a readable representation of the complete expression as a single navigable HTML page.
For a general introduction to the way in which the full view is presented, click here. We recommend that you also refer to the notes on the ONIX-PL expression of CC BY 3.0, above.
ONIX-PL expression of CC BY 3.0
The ONIX-PL expression is a single XML document, which can be viewed in your browser or downloaded for offline reference. Note, however, that this is a ‘native’ ONIX XML file, which is intended for machine interpretation rather than for a human reader.
