ONIX for Books
The ONIX for Books Product Information Message is the international standard for representing and communicating book industry product information in electronic form.
The latest release is ONIX 3.0
Guidance notes on how to describe digital products in ONIX are available. Information about earlier releases 2.0 and 2.1 is also available.
(Following the release of 3.0, the ONIX for Books International Steering Committee has agreed that earlier versions – 1.0, 1,1 and 1.2.1 – will no longer be supported and should not be used).
ONIX for Books Release 1.0 was published in 2000. This release is no longer supported. Most current usage is based on Release 2.1. The latest version, however, is Release 3.0, which is expected to come into general use in 2010. For the foreseeable future, any new revisions will be based on, and backwards-compatible with, Release 3.0, and we strongly encourage all users to implement it as early as possible.
